We are glad you’re with us! We are one of the oldest and most admired golf associations in Texas. Established in 1953 as the San Antonio Telecommunications Employee Golf Association, we welcome everyone to join and participate in our excellent Tournament schedule. We are a Certified Member of the Texas Golf Association and use GolfGenius to manage our League Membership & Tournament Activities.
The Board of Directors would like to provide you with their personal thanks for playing with us and look forward to your participation in several, if not all, of our scheduled events. The SATEGA GOLF Portals have the information you need to understand who we are, what we do and how to participate in our League.
New Members will receive a separate Email Invite with a temporary password to the Member Portal where you will create a new password to login.
Public Website: www.sategagolf.com
This website is accessible by the general public and provides lots of information on who we are and what we do.
Member Portal: www.sategagolf.golfgenius.com
This website is only accessible with a Member Login & Password. Tournament Schedule, Sign-Up as well as Results are accessible.
The following will provide you with the basic guidelines and information you need to sign-up and participate in our events. Please take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with this info and remember, SATEGA GOLF means Fun, Fellowship and Integrity.
Member / Player Responsibilities
Members are responsible to maintain an accurate Handicap Index. This includes posting all personal golf scores into GHIN (Golf Handicap Information Network). Note: All SATEGA GOLF scores are automatically posted into GHIN. Members should NOT post their SATEGA GOLF scores separately.
Members are responsible to add and/or remove themselves from the Round Players List up until Thursday at noon. Once signup closes, Members will not be able to add themselves or withdraw from the Round thru the Portal. Members must contact the Tournament Director to make any changes to the Player Roster and pairings. It’s best if all changes can be completed before sign-up closes to reduce the workload for the changes in the system and communicate them to the Course.
Members are responsible for their Guests to ensure they Check-In as well as paying their Tournament Fee. As soon as you know your Guest cannot make the Round, you must contact the Tournament Director so the player List /Pairings can be adjusted.
Members and Guests are required to play by the USGA Rules of Golf. Integrity is part of our motto and we expect all players to ensure the rules are followed and enforced. Members are asked to be considerate of the other players and to have an enjoyable time with us.
ALL Players (including Guests) are responsible to pay their Green Fee if they are a No Show for the Round and the Course charges us for your fee. Many of the courses we play have a Contract outlining the minimum number of Players we must have. If we are below the minimum, then SATEGA GOLF is responsible to pay for the remainder per the Contract. Those costs will be passed on to the appropriate Members.
Signing Up for an Event
This year’s Schedule lists 20+ Rounds. Most of them are held on Saturdays with an 8:00am shotgun start. Rounds are normally opened for sign-up 4 weeks in advance. An email Invite from the GolfGenius system will be automatically sent when the Round is opened and you can sign up using the link in the email or you can login to the SATEGA GOLF Member Portal and sign up there.
When you sign up to play, you can also sign up other Members and/or Guests to play as part of a twosome, threesome or foursome. If a Member has already signed up, their name will not be on the list to pick. Check ‘Who is Playing’ on the Member Portal to see who has already signed up. Please note the pairing you requested may not always be guaranteed but we’ll always do our best to accommodate. The Tournament Director will pair you with other players as needed. You can also sign up a Guest to play. We ask that if the same Guest plays more than 2 Rounds, they should join the League. A foursome can have no more than 2 Guests total. Guests are not allowed to play in the League Games but are required to pay the $5 Tournament Fee.
In addition to the green fee paid to the course, all participants including Guests pay a $5 fee for playing in the event (Tournament Fee) which will be collected on Tournament Day. Additionally, there are 3 games Members can participate in: Closest to the Pin, Gross Skins and Net Skins. Each of these games cost an additional $5 to play and 70% of the monies collected for each game are disbursed back to the winners. Who doesn’t like winning $20-$40 for a Closest to the Pin? You will be automatically signed for all games when you join as a new Member but can be removed later if you want. Most of our members play all games.
Sign up will close by noon on the Thursday before the Round. You can always contact the Tournament Director to sign-up after the online access closes but there is no guarantee that we will be able to get you in to play. It's up to the golf course to allow us to add on players after the sign-up. Normally, that's not a problem. Our goal is to get as many people as possible to play.
Tournament Day Activities
Now that you've signed up to play, here’s what you can expect. Check-in normally starts @ 6:45am for an 8:00am Round. You are expected to check in with the Check-In Team by 7:30am (usually 30 minutes before the start time otherwise). Please make sure you get here early so we can complete the signup by 7:30am. We’d like to get in a little warm up too!
All SATEGA GOLF Tournament fees are to be paid at Check-in. Credit Cards are currently not accepted. Cash and personal checks are OK. Please bring exact change for your Fees.
Once you’ve Checked in, please pay your Green Fees with the golf course and then you can get in some practice prior to the start of the Round. Range Balls are normally included if there is a Range available. Please be in your cart ready to go by 7:45am (or 15 minutes prior to start). Once the group is assembled, the Tournament Director and/or other Board members will provide any special announcements and guidelines for the Round before we head out to our tee box.
Pace of Play – Please try to keep up with the group ahead of you. Although Fun is part of our motto, slow play is not. Members should communicate throughout the Round to help keep the group within the appropriate position on the course. Please play ‘Ready Golf’ to help the pace of play. Make sure you help out the other players in your group by keeping an eye open for where everyone’s golf ball goes to decrease the time to find it. If you think your ball is lost, announce to the group and play a provisional ball so you don’t have to go back to the tee box when (or if) you don’t find your ball. If you lose a golf ball, take NO MORE THAN 2 minutes to look for it.
GPS and other Devices – Rangefinders are allowed during Tournament play as long as the Slope feature is disabled. This also applies to Golf Watches and other personal GPS devices.
Playing Rules – SATEGA GOLF follows all of the USGA Rules of Golf with 4 minor exceptions.
(1) There is a 2-minute time limit (not 3 minutes) to look for a lost ball.
(2) Double-Par is the maximum score per hole
(3) Playing from the rocks – If your ball is not in a penalty area (hazard) but is resting on mostly loose or embedded rocks, the player is allowed to consider the rocks as “ground under repair”. Move your ball to the closest point of relief, no closer to the hole. Drop within one club length at that spot and play it from there without penalty.
PLEASE verify and gain approval from your playing partners BEFORE you move your ball.
(4) Gunch (Natural Area) Played as a Lateral Hazard – If you ball goes into the gunch (tall grass, thick brush, etc.) and is not in an Out of Bounds area, the player must drop another ball at the point where the ball entered the gunch. The player will take a 1-stroke penalty and proceed with playing the remainder of the hole.
Scorecards – Everyone will have an individual scorecard or a team scorecard on their carts. Please write your score legibly for each hole and try to refrain from adding other marks for side games, etc. Scorecards must be signed by ALL OF THE PLAYERS in your foursome to validate and attest the scores. Invalid scorecards will result in disqualification and forfeiture of any Round winnings. Turn in your signed scorecards to the Tournament Director after you have completed your final hole and before you head out to the parking lot to unload your cart.
Handicap – You will be scored using the Callaway scoring system until you have an established handicap (3 rounds). Once your handicap is established, you can track your progress on the Portal. All members will have an official GHIN Handicap Index, courtesy of the Texas Golf Association.
Inclement Weather – If the Round is going to be impacted by inclement weather, the Board of Directors will meet either prior to the date or early that morning to assess the situation and determine whether or not to cancel. If the Round is cancelled, the Tournament Director will send out an e-mail to the group. Please ensure you check your email for updated status.
Scores and Winnings – Your scores and winnings will be posted to the Member Portal as soon as the data is entered into the GolfGenius system. Payout of the winnings will be placed in a separate envelope for each Member and will be available for you to pickup at the next Round you play during the Check-in process.
We thank you for being an integral part of this growing family and look forward to playing and competing alongside you in this year’s Tournaments. We’re glad you’re here. Let’s have fun!
